I’m one of those old-school bloggers who found success 20 years ago back when I was using FrontPage and getting traffic was way easier than it is now.

I took a long break between my original sites (MommysPlace and TelecommutingMoms) (I didn’t realize how good I had it and I lost passion for the topic.) and the new blogs I’ve started in the past 18 months.Â

A lot has changed, but some things haven’t.

If you aim to make money through ads and affiliate income, it’s still a numbers game. Social media wasn’t even on the radar back then, and while it’s big now, I’ve learned you don’t need it if it’s not your thing.

What hasn’t changed is that people still consume blog content, use search engines like Google and Pinterest, and have questions they need answered!

So, why did I get back into blogging after all this time?

It just fits my personality and work style.

I love writing, creating graphics, tracking traffic, experimenting with pins and clicks, and diving into keywords and SEO.

Sure, getting the traffic you need to make a good living is harder than it was even five years ago, but it’s not impossible.

As someone with a chronic illness, I need flexibility and something I can do when I’m up at 2 a.m. or working from bed. Blogging ticks all those boxes for me.

I also love that I can create a valuable article, optimize it, make some pins, and then move on to the next thing. Once an article is up and running, it can be pretty hands-off.

Unlike selling something like art prints where you need constant promotion for each item.

And, with tools like ChatGPT for outlining, Canva for graphics, and schedulers like Tailwind, I can actually run this business on my own.

It works for me, and I’m glad I didn’t listen to those who said blogging is dead.

I got accepted into Mediavine’s Journey ad network recently, back when they had a 10k sessions/month requirement. (They seem more lax on that requirement now.)

This month, I’m on track to hit the same amount I was making from my part-time VA job from my first blog.

It might not sound huge, but now I’m the one calling the shots, taking risks, and growing my income, not someone else’s!

Both Google and Pinterest are driving traffic for me, almost equally, and I feel confident that my goal of bringing in a few thousand per month from each blog is within reach.

And I believe it’s doable for you too, if you’re patient, consistent, and put in the work.

If you leverage Pinterest, SEO, email lists, and maybe social media if you like, there’s still a place for blogs out there. (Some people make big money each month, and maybe one day I’ll blow past my current goals too!)

Anyway, I hope this gives you some encouragement. If you’re thinking about starting a blog, just go for it!
