Spring Cleaning Laundry Room Hacks

I’ll be the first to admit—my laundry room can get a little out of control. Between piles of clothes, stray socks, and detergent spills, it’s not always the most organized space in my home.

But when spring rolls around, I make it a point to give it a good deep clean and refresh, and let me tell you, it makes such a difference!

A fresh, organized laundry room makes the never-ending chore of washing clothes feel a little less daunting.

If your laundry space could use some love, too, I’ve got some simple but effective tips to help you clean, declutter, and organize it for a fresh start this season!

1. Declutter the Chaos

Start by getting rid of anything that doesn’t belong. Old detergent bottles, mismatched socks, and mystery dryer sheets? Toss them. A clutter-free space makes everything feel instantly cleaner.

2. Wipe Down Everything

Dust and lint seem to settle everywhere in a laundry room. Wipe down shelves, countertops, and even the walls. Don’t forget to clean behind the washer and dryer—there’s probably a small mountain of lost socks back there!

3. Deep Clean the Washer and Dryer

Your machines need love, too! Run a cleaning cycle with vinegar and baking soda in the washer to get rid of buildup and funky smells. For the dryer, clean out the lint trap and use a vacuum to suck up any hidden lint inside the vent.

4. Organize Laundry Supplies

Put detergents, fabric softeners, and stain removers in baskets or clear containers. If you have a lot of small items, a lazy Susan on a shelf makes grabbing what you need super easy.

5. Refresh the Air

Laundry rooms can get musty, so open a window if possible or add an air purifier. A few drops of essential oil on wool dryer balls will keep everything smelling fresh.

6. Maximize Storage Space

If storage is tight, wall-mounted shelves or a pegboard can make a big difference. Hanging baskets or hooks on the back of the door help, too.

7. Make It Cozy

A little decor goes a long way! A cute sign, a small plant, or even a stylish rug can make the space feel more inviting. You spend enough time doing laundry—it might as well be in a space you enjoy!

8. Clean the Laundry Baskets & Hampers

These hold dirty clothes all week long, so they definitely need a good scrub. Wipe down plastic hampers with soapy water, and if you have fabric ones, toss them in the wash if possible.

9. Check for Expired or Unused Products

Detergents, stain removers, and other laundry products don’t last forever. If anything is expired, crusty, or rarely used, it’s time to let it go and free up space.

10. Scrub the Sink (If You Have One)

Laundry room sinks can get grimy from soaking clothes or rinsing out stains. A little baking soda and vinegar can work wonders to remove buildup and freshen it up.

11. Upgrade Your Hangers

If your laundry room doubles as a drying space, consider swapping out old wire hangers for sturdy velvet or wooden ones. They take up less space and keep clothes from slipping off.

12. Label Everything

If you store laundry supplies in containers or baskets, adding labels makes it easy to find what you need. This is especially helpful if multiple people use the laundry room.

13. Brighten Up the Space

Laundry rooms can feel dull, so adding some extra lighting or even a peel-and-stick wallpaper accent can make it more cheerful. A well-lit space makes stain-treating and sorting clothes way easier.

14. Set Up a Lost Sock Jar

Stray socks are inevitable, so keep a small basket or jar nearby to collect them until their match turns up. No more random socks floating around!

Now that your laundry room is clean, organized, and feeling fresh, laundry day might not seem so bad after all!

A little decluttering and deep cleaning go a long way in making the space more functional and even a little more enjoyable.

Plus, keeping it tidy will be so much easier now that everything has its place.

So go ahead, toss in a load, and enjoy your freshly cleaned laundry room—you earned it!
